Would you like to learn how rain barrels and rain gardens can save you money and energy, as well as help the environment? Join us on October 19th at 9:30 am in the Ten Chimneys Program Center. You'll learn how diverting water from downspouts keeps it from becoming runoff carrying pollutants to the groundwater and water bodies. The water can be stored for future use, such as watering your gardens. Lawn and garden watering can make up nearly 40% of total household water use. This means your water bill may almost double during that time. A single rain barrel will save most homeowners about 1300 gallons of water during the peak summer months. Other uses for your conserved water can be washing windows, your vehicle, lawn furniture, and more. Rain water contains no chlorine, lime, or calcium - it is naturally "soft" water. You'll also learn about the benefits of rain gardens! Both rain gardens and rain barrels can be a beautiful solution to water pollution. Speaker Jayne Jenks has been a Conservation Specialist for the Land Resources Division of Waukesha County Parks and Land Use Department for over 30 years. Her role is to educate the public about stormwater and actions we can all take to keep water clean. There will be a question-and-answer session after the presentation.
This is a FREE event but you must register in advance!
We will also offer a tour of the Ten Chimneys Estate after the presentation at approximately 10:45 am. The cost is $35 for the Full Estate Tour and $28 for the Main House Only Tour. Reservations are required.
