Have you been wanting to learn how to compost food scraps from your kitchen but are unsure how to start? Do you want to prevent food scraps from going into a landfill and turn them into valuable nutrition for your garden instead? Join us on May 11th at 9:30 am in the Ten Chimneys Program Center and learn how making your own compost is an easy, practical, and satisfying way to make use of yard waste and table scraps. Home composting can also reduce the use of water and synthetic fertilizers while improving the health of your soil and plants. Speaker Kirsten Lee Villegas will cover why composting is beneficial, various methods to start, how to build a compost bin, best practices for maintaining compost health, and how to use the finished compost in your vegetable and flower gardens. There will be a question-and-answer session after the presentation.
Kristen Lee Villegas is a volunteer for the Southeastern Wisconsin Master Gardeners, a professional Garden Coach, and a UW-Madison Certified Master Gardener. She is Founder and Principle of Garden 4 Life, a landscape and garden design company specializing in helping homeowners improve their yards, gardens, and landscapes in the Lake Country area. She is also a passionate home composter and vegetable gardener.
This is a FREE event but you must register in advance!
We will also offer a pre-season tour of the Ten Chimneys Estate after the presentation at approximately 10:45 am. The cost is $35 for the Full Estate Tour and $28 for the Main House Only Tour. Reservations are required.
